The Alabama Scenic River Trail organization has scheduled its first Wiregrass float for April 1-3. Paddlers will gather Friday evening at John Hutto Park. On Saturdsy the group will float the beautiful West Fork of the Choctawhatchee. On Sunday there will be a shorter float or floats, stream or streams TBD.
Camping is free for the event courtesy of the Town of Newton.
Persons who want to share eat meals arranged by the ASRT organization can signup and pay for meals via the ASRT website. Go to the events section on the front page of the ASTA site for registration and details. PLEASE sign up if you plan to participate whether you plan to eat meals with the ASRT group or not.
I. The Wiregrass Canoe and Kayak Club will be organizing some service floats in March to check for and remove any extreme strainers that the recent floods have created on the West Fork and other floats in the area. Check out Wiregrass Canoe and Kayak Club on Facebook for information.
II. Choctawhatchee Riverkeeper will be working to organize several cleanups at access points during February and March. These cleanups will be done early in the morning and will be followed by short floats (weather and water conditions permitting). These will be posted on the Wiregrass Canoe and Kayak Club or you can e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will see that you are notified of these events. Cleanups and floats will be done on Judy Creek, the West Fork and the Little Choctawhatchee. Interest and conditions permitting there may also be an event on the East Fork.
